“Decomposing Summer” inaugural e-pub

by Aaron Geiger | 21st September 2011

I present to you our first e-publication, featuring poetry along the themes of stark realism, emotional noir, musings on summer, realism in Americana, or dark sentimentality. For access to the publication, please see the link after the passage below.

From the introduction:

You have stumbled upon the inaugural e-publication of but.if.and.that, a website and entity that loves all things quirky and thoughtful in design and the English language. I say “stumbled upon” because in all honesty this publication is an exercise in dipping the toes in a stranger’s pond. What the collective “we” hope to accomplish is: 1) Bring literature to the public in a free and visually engaging format; 2) Bring joy to the English language; 3) Showcase authors and poets, artists and photographers, and assist them with their endeavors; and 4) Learn along our journey new ways of engaging with the “audience” of our peers, friends, readers, and the great unknown.

This oh-so-daunting first edition would not be possible if it were not for the dozens upon dozens of people who submitted poems to an unknown organization. I recognize that these poets shared something intimate with our reviewing panel, and I’d like to thank each person for their time and efforts, whether or not their words appear in the pages of this e-pub. I’d also like to offer my sincere thanks to Paul K. Tunis, Steven David Johnson, Joshua Naylor, and Warren Brown for being featured artists in this issue. All were wonderfully receptive to my aspirations, and all of them possess great talent that is worthy of our explorations.

Finally, the most groveling goes to Scott Lohr, a colleague, designer, friend, typesetter, and overall last-of-the-good-guys-of-the-earth; he graciously stepped in to help make this production possible. He is the roots and the stem, the coral reef and the phytoplankton, the thorax, the vertebrae, and the percussion; all of the essential ingredients that we don’t think we’re paying attention to, until we realize that someone had to bring all of this together.

A caveat: since this publication is FREE and open to the public, I ask those of you who enjoy this to help support us in whatever manner that you can. If that means a nod of support, or a link on your website, or even a job for one of our staff members, we would certainly appreciate anything and everything. Please keep in mind that all of the works are copyrighted and owned by the authors and artists.

With Thanks and Joy,

Aaron Geiger

Yes, I echo previous posts. As I said on my own blog—

These pages do not lie still: they show strong design and awareness of the craft. A strong feeling of pride exists to be included in this inaugural publication.

    Cheers!
